KANEKA Scholarship Award

KANEKA SCHOLARSHIP AWARD is a scholarship offered by Kaneka Corporation. It is a corporation which is a diversified company with over 50 years of experience in the manufacturing of various products including chemicals, polymer, plastic resin, foodstuff, pharmaceuticals, electrical & electronic materials and synthetic fibers worldwide. Kaneka has extended the creation of valuable products, technologies and services using our
comprehensive capabilities. In Malaysia, Kaneka have established three
manufacturing companies on a 98 acres land at Gebeng in Kuantan, Pahang.
The Kaneka Scholarship Award intends to promote higher education by offering financial aid to qualified students, who are pursuing full-time degree course in Japanese or Chemical Engineering studies at the University of Malaya, so that they can focus to strive for excellence.
Eligibility :
- A Malaysian citizen
- Has completed first year of undergraduate study and achieved a minimum CGPA of 3.0
- Family income of below RM2,500/month
- Individuals who have already obtained scholarships from other sources are not eligible to apply
- Short listed applicants are required to attend an interview session
Terms of Award :
The sponsored undergraduates will be required to do their practical training
at Kaneka plant in Kuantan, Pahang.
Award Tenure
The scholarship is tenable for the minimum period of study related to the
program registered by the student (excluding first year of study).
Award Amount
The amount of scholarship awarded is RM8,500 per academic year.
Selection Criteria
Criteria of selection are based on the following:
- Academic Achievement 50%
- Extra-curricular Achievement 10%
- Essay 10%
- Interview Results 30%
Well-rounded students with a good combination of academic, social, personal
and extra curricular achievements are encouraged to apply. If you match the
requirements and have a vision to excel, please apply by sending the
application form which can be obtained from HEPA, a recent passport size
photo, latest examination results slip, an essay (in English) with less than
500 words based on one of the topics listed below (in MS Word or PDF
format). The essay shall be attached with the completed application form.
ESSAY TOPICS (CHOOSE ONE):
1. Who has the greatest influence in your life that has inspired you and what characteristics or achievements of this person that you would like to emulate?
2. What is your goal? How do you set your priority in achieving your goal?
3. Self development is a result of chains of events in a person life time. Relate at least one specific chain of event that helps mould you into who you are today.
4. What goals, ambitions and motivations have led you to apply for the course you are pursuing?
5. Describe in detail at least one outstanding, non-academic achievement that you have accomplished.
