Jardine Scholarship Awards 2010
Jardine Matheson established an educational trust in 1982 to mark its 150th Anniversary. Since then over 100 scholars have been granted awards to enable them to study in selected Colleges at Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the United Kingdom. Scholars have come from a number of countries in which the Jardine Matheson Group operates, including Hong Kong, mainland China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The Jardine Foundation is now seeking applications from students who are applying to the selected Colleges at Oxford and Cambridge Universities for the academic year commencing in 2010.
Criteria for Selection:
We are seeking students who can show an excellent academic performance combined with the personal qualities and character which demonstrate leadership and fellowship. We shall take into consideration achievements in non-curricular activities, including sports, and their level of community involvement.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be under 25 years of age, single and in a satisfactory state of health;
- Applicants must be resident in Malaysia or have sufficient connection with Malaysia to be regarded as Malaysian applicants (generally, the Scholarship Committee will not accept applications from candidates whose parents have not resided in Malaysia for at least seven years prior to the proposed date of entry to University) ;
- apply through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) for entry to one of the above Colleges prior to applying for the Scholarship and sit the relevant University entrance examination, if this is required.
How to Apply
1. Applications must be received by the Secretaries of The Jardine Foundation on Tuesday, 27th October 2009. Late applications will not be accepted.
2. All applications must be submitted together with the following:
- A personal statement describing the applicant's objectives, aspirations, plans after graduation and particulars of their extra-curricular activities, including sports, and their level of community involvement;
- Certified copies of SPM and 'A' level or STPM certificates;
- Two recent passport-size photographs; and
- A copy ofthe completed UCAS application form and forecast 'A' Level or STPM results.
3. For applicants attending secondary school or the equivalent, applications must be submitted through the school principal and be supported by a testimonial signed by the school principal setting out:
- The applicant's academic record of examination results;
- Remarks which will assist the Scholarship Committee to satisfy themselves that requirements as to special qualities have been met; and
- Any other relevant information which will assist the Scholarship Committee in their assessment.
4. In all other cases applications in Malaysia must be submitted, together with references, through the principal of the secondary school, or the equivalent, which applicants last attended.
